• The Scientific Advisor to the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba visited ISTT

In continuation of the official visit to the Republic of Cuba, by the Iranian authorities and the vast capacity for collaborations between Iran and Cuba in the field of science and technology, a high ranking envoy consisting of Fidel Angel Castro Diaz – Balart, Scientific Advisor to the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba and the Vice-President of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, Jose Raul Castro Smirnov, and Ariel Mariano Felipe Gomez, experts in the field of Nano-Technology traveled to Iran. A visit of Isfahan, and Isfahan Science and Technology Town (ISTT) had been organized for this envoy upon their request and so this envoy arrived in Isfahan on the 15th of November 2016. The envoy from Cuba together with a team from ISTT, met the Mayor of Isfahan, Dr Jamali Nezhad on their first day of stay in Isfahan. Many subjects were covered during this meeting including ways to expand the sisterhood agreement between the towns of Isfahan and Havana.

Dr. Castro and his companions visited ISTT on their second day of stay in Isfahan which was their main objectives to travelling to Isfahan. During this visit they met with the president of ISTT, and Director of Isfahan Regional Center for Technology Incubator and Science Park Development under the auspices of UNESCO (IRIS), and the managing team at ISTT. Dr. Castro explained the manor to which technology advancements have been achieved in the different sectors of the Cuban economy since the revolution. He also went on to say that most technological advancement have been in the field of Biotechnologies and that Cuba plans to replica such growth and development for Nano–Technologies. To achieve this objective they intend to set up an incubation center for Nano-Technologies and so they wish to extract from the well of experience accumulated at ISTT over the past twenty years. Dr. Castro added that he was informed that ISTT disseminates its experience and knowledge on park and incubator management around the world through IRIS, and thus he looked forward to working closely with IRIS for this purpose.

Upon the completion of meetings at ISTT, a special tour of ISTT settled companies’ working in the field of Nano-Technologies and Biotechnologies was taken. The envoy was greatly impressed with their achievements and the managing body supporting them. They expressed their eagerness towards signing an MOU with IRIS and starting joint activities.
